Dungeon Fulfillment and Resetting Department. After each use by adventuring groups, our trained staff will remove dead adventurers and monster encounters, reset traps, restock standard treasure locations, clean up excess blood and other spilled bodily fluids, and reset programmed random event areas.
Day 1, ‘Tomb of the Goblin King’ dungeon, area G26. Standard sponge run, clean, reset and restock. Tranquilized goblins in transit cages staged at service entrance, treasure allocation standard plus 7. * Note: chest in room 27 was damaged and replaced, secret door in hallway 3 still sticking.
Excess blood removal required, as the pit trap caught 2 human sized entry components. Most armor is salvageable but heavily stained. Logs indicate 3 of the last entry components managed to leave the dungeon, though 37% of treasure items were not found.
Day 2, ‘Tomb of the Goblin King’ dungeon, area G26. Nick calls an emergency meeting of staff to level 3, room 17. In the northeast corner of the room is an archway with a stair leading down. There has never been a 4th sub-level of this dungeon.
“Ok, well this could be a problem,” said Nick, crew chief of DFRD 3.
Darla walked up to the archway, examining the stair, “Yeah, no signs of wear on these stairs, no indication anything or anyone has used them. And where the heck did this archway even come from? We’ve reset this dungeon at least 12 times and it wasn’t here before.”
Trag, our half orc peered down the stairs, “not seeing any heat signs down there. But what I want to know is, is this a new exit, a new entrance, or does it go to a whole new level below?” Trag scratched his private parts in annoyance, “hate to say it, but we need to go down and investigate. We can’t certify the reset with this here.”
Nick nodded, “agreed. We need to check this out before we can leave.
The Gobbo resupply are still out and most of the loot has been dispersed. I say we go down and see what this is.”
Glifford, the mage advisor held up a hand, “hang on a minute. We can’t just stroll on down there and hope it’s just an empty area. We need to gear up first, and be ready for anything we might find.
Numnum the Feisty piped up, “since we don’t have any of our own adventuring gear with us, we’re going to have to scavenge from the ones who didn’t make it out of the last run …plus we’ll need to use some of the loot we’ve already restocked. Otherwise we go down unprotected.
Assuming we don’t have any big surprises down there we can always clean and restock the stuff we borrow from dungeon inventory.
Darla wrinkled her nose, “ewww. That means some of us will have to wear the armor of the two components who got caught in the pit trap. That always produces more bodily fluids than just blood, and you know it.
Nick smiled, “true, we’ll have to draw straws for the soiled’ armor. But I think we’re all in agreement, this new entrance or whatever it is needs to be investigated before we can finish this reset.
Trag dug mites out of his ears in annoyance, “pity we can’t just send the gobbos down to check it out. I’ll take the chainmail of the fighter component that got pitted. It should fit me. The other one was probably an elf, though she fell face first so it’s hard to tell.
Garwell the dwarf snorted, “well let’s get fitted, the day’s half over already and we don’t know how long we’ll be down there.
Nick produced the dungeon checklist, “alright. Trag and Garwell get the pit items that are good enough to use, Darla please go grab the random magic items from the secret caches on 1 and 3, Numnum get the range weapons and ammunition from the components and the hidden armory on 2.
Everyone report back here when you have the gear together. Nick took a measured look down the mystery stair, “ I haven’t done a dungeon since I took this job. We’ll see how much of the rust it knocks off.
The team split up, gathering whatever they could. Semi-retired adventurers all, they wondered what the rest of the day would bring.
